When the United Nations was deciding on a way to describe the Turkish extermination of ethnic Armenians by starvation and execution from 1915 through into the early 1920s, it created the term genocide. The UN also used the allegations of the Nazi holocaust as another example to form the definition of the word. However, Turkey continues to deny the scale of the genocide and have petitioned to remove their cultural cleansing from use as an example to define genocide at the UN.
Somewhere between 1 and 1.5 million Armenians perished and yet Turkey, a member of NATO, the G20 and other international organisations, earns very little scorn for this continued stance. Obviously Armenians are ethnically very distinct from the Jews. If these kids had been Jewish this picture would have been plastered over the side of a monument deriding the Turkish people as forever tainted with the sin of sins. There would have been thousands of documentaries, movies and books about it and Turkish historians would be locked up in countries like Austria for having the ‘wrong’ academic opinion.
There is no justice. Especially when you consider that of all those murdered Armenians, the Turks failed to kill the ones that counted, and now we are stuck with the Kardashians.
